My experience at the event:
And so the Mountain Bike season started again. After some races last year, I decided to start earlier and challenge Curtis to a series of races in the next months which will culminate with the 94.7 Momentum road race. Each race will be treated like a stage in a bigger tour. You know, you need something to keep you motivated.
Curtis decided to start our season with the Avianto race, something that none of us ever tried it before. None of Curtis friends could tell us if the track was difficult or not.
So we opted for the 30km category and, after waking up at 5.30am in a nice spring morning, we arrived at destination still suffering a bit from the night before, where we were at a party until past midnight...
Probably this was one of the reasons why these 30km felt so long. With very little open roads, the loop was mostly on single tracks on rocks and through hills. I tried to push on the few kms of tarred road, but the final average tells a story of slow climbing, difficult technical sections and a lot of falls: almost 2 hours at 15km/h to complete 30km... I almost could have done it quicker by running!
The important thing is that once again I finished in front of my good mate Curtis!
